Just over ten years ago, Patrick and I set off on a windy, rainy day, through semi-flooded roads, driving two hours from home to Border Collie Trust, Birmingham, to find ourselves a new dog. We were still grief-stricken over the loss of our first dog, Nika (who died far too young of a terrible genetic disease), but I was desperate to have a new dog

Been there with the decision, and my heart hurts for you now. But you gave her gentleness and love and she had no fear. And this after a long, good life. And you rescued her after that early betrayal. People who give homes to rescue animals are the highest pantheon of angels in my own paradigm, and there you and your family are, with your loving hearts and open arms. I am so glad she had that sunny, wonderful life with you.
