Okay, I am officially jealous. Your abilities with a digital camera is amazing. I want to tap into your head and figure out how you learned your camera so well. Like how did you get such great close up pictures, my camera gives me crap close ups. I also have to compliment your natural talent to see things that most people don't see.

So, until I can learn digital photography, I am back to film...

First, about the close-ups, my camera has some nice functions for being essentially a point and shoot camera. One of the functions is a freaking sweet macro function. (It is a Canon Elph S500 if you're interested.) It also has a "manual" function which lets me play with exposure and that kind of thing a small amount--though not to the same extent you'd be able to do with a SLR. Maybe you would be happier with a digital SLR that will react similarly to the 35mm SLR I assume you're using now. I drool over those about every time I pass by them. I MIGHT be saving my money for one right now. Okay, maybe not quite right now, but soon.

And, you don't need to tap into my head. Just keep playing with your camera and find out the things that work and the things that don't. You'll figure a lot of things out. Also, remember that it should be fun. Delight in the pictures that look good. Erase the ones that don't. It's digital so you can do that kind of thing. It = awesome!

since i have a canon as well, I wonder if I have a macro function that I haven't taken the time to find.

Yeah, I am probably going to start saving for an SLR, but the camera and lenses I want our super pricey.

Macro options are the bomb. joymattingly July 26 2006, 16:14:38 UTC
Our Sony has a Macro option and I use it to get ridiculous close-ups of my son. My husband uses it for taking pics of flowers, insects, and other such things.

BTW, I love the pic of the beer. I like the space where one is missing. It's obviously the beginning of a lovely afternoon.
