I really like this because the Queen has power. I mean, there's points for the way canon goes, because it suggests maybe she's not the Big Bad, maybe they won't kill her to break the curse, since it was all Rumpelstiltskin. But at the same time, it takes away from her power that he's pulling the strings. And I adore the way you write her, so badass and confident and awesome.
Like this?
“You had better hope it does," she said, voice low, with all the weight of an official decree. "Because you are going to suffer in this new world of mine as much as any of them. I’ll not help you.”
LOVE. Now I wish the show had gone this way, because that confidence and determination is a really cool flipped version of that scene where she's the supplicant and he's the one in control.

This idea started because I was thinking about how we get to see all the characters as altered, negatively exaggerated or diminished versions of themselves in Storybrooke, except for Regina and Rumpelstiltskin. (And arguably some other minor characters who weren't clear-cut heroes/heroines in the fairy-tale world.) Mr. Gold is like this smoothed-out, cleaned-up, successful and no-longer-manic Rumpelstiltskin. So I started wondering what Rumpelstiltskin would look like in Storybrooke without the queen's protection ( ... )
