Fingers crossed

Am happy to report that I was able to get myself into the office and work for 2 1/2 hours today, to add to the 3 I've chalked up already this week. Most of that time was entering edits I'd made on dead tree format at home, but I felt reasonably intelligent and even composed a few new sentences.

Clearly my body has undergone some kind of metamorphosis and has decided to produce energy again. Not unlimited outrageous amounts of energy, but it's INCREDIBLY GOOD to not feel completely exhausted all the time. It's felt a bit like descriptions of gene therapy. Odd (seriously, sweating on half my face?), transformative, but good. I visited the folks, went to the shops for drugs and buns, made and consumed two beigeburgers (just as good the second time around), had a short but intense nap, then took Cally to the vet.

It was a *very* quick trip to the vet - I didn't even have to sit down but went straight from reception through to the consulting room, where Dr Laura <3 had Cally's shot ready to go. Out of the box, neck pinch, jab, back in the box. Discussed treatment options, then asked for some kind of cat-friendly antiseptic/soothing cream to put on Princess' newly bald spots. Hopefully some of the cortisone will soak in and have a generally soothing effect on her.

The Cartrophen is a definite success for Cally, but it hasn't dealt with all her discomfort. She's definitely more flexible, active, and less sore to the touch, but she's not been as bright-eyed as I'd like. Her breathing has been a bit hoarse too, without the anti-inflammatory effect. Now we've established that the cartrophan is worth using, I've started her on a new course of Metacam, and hopefully the two drugs will cover all her bases. In passing the vet agreed that Cally should never be put under anaesthetic ever again. I did learn that the creepy falling-asleep-with-eyes-open thing was just old age. Anyone seen that in their old mammalian companions? It might be hard to spot in aged fish or pet rocks.

As for me I shall have to be cautious in the next few days, but I'm looking forward to some action. Husband is out of town on Saturday night with a gig to launch the new Beverley Arts Centre, and soon begins intense rehearsals for the show in early April. On Monday we have a date (and now I'm hopeful I'll be there too) to see Sculpture By The Sea at Cottesloe. It's my absolute favourite art event every year, and we have just as much fun with the catalogue as the artworks.
