It's that time of year here at Sector 7: annual flu shots for everyone shorter than me. Since all three candidates are getting on a bit, it's also a chance for a spot of maintenance. Cats love it when you change their spark plugs.
[Please note that I am in no mood at all to organise any more information today, so this will be a bit obfuscated.]
Cally
Weight: lost a little.
Flu shot: No, because she's nearly 20 and has an infection.
Cartrophen shot: regular 4-weekly shot delivered.
Worming: Refused. Vet will try again in 4 weeks when she's due for next injection. This might actually be in two weeks for a different injection.
Pain/sleepiness/rough fur: Identified as an infection at the base of the tail close to the site of the last one. Most likely culprit another bite from Princess. Antibiotic shot given. To return in two weeks if not cleared by then. Last one took two shots to clear.
Claws: We've been letting them grow a bit to help her clamber about on furniture, but they were too long so got a trim today. This was not appreciated, particularly in the sore back legs. I think I got chewed a bit whilst restraining her, but due to luck, mechanics, or missing teeth I was merely vigorously gummed.
A bit of a rough session for the old girl. The vet Dr Laura was impressed with her vocabulary of cat swearwords.
ACTIONS ARISING (CALLY): Monitor infection for 2 weeks, if no improvement return for repeat shot. On next visit (either 2 weeks for antibiotic shot or 4 weeks for next Cartrophen) also give worming pill.
Princess
Lost a bit of weight, but not enough for serious concern. Probably just seasonal.
Flu shot: Yes (under protest)
Claws: Trimmed (under a lot of protest - first ominously silent so we thought she might actually have a go, but then reasuringly whiny which suggested that no actual action was imminent).
Worming pill: shoved down under quite a lot of protest, along with a prednistone I'd brought along to defer the day when I have to do it next.
Self harm scratching: reviewed. Keep doing what we're doing.
Pumpkin
Flu shot: Achieved without trouble.
Claws: Clipped with minimum of fuss but maximum shrapnel because he has huge boofy feet and chunky claws to match.
Worming pill: Unhappy, but the vet got it down the hatch first try.
Lump on chin: cleared (yay)
Lumpy lymph node: also cleared (bigger yay!)
All That Fur: Keep up the grooming.
