A(nother) trip to the vet

Dec 17, 2012 11:42

Just back from the vet where I greeted Dr Laura with a deeply ironic “Hello Stranger!”. She replied that it did seem like a long time since I’d been there last, which was all of three weeks ago. I had been coming weekly for a month before that, so I suppose three weeks can seem like a long time.

Today’s trip was for Cally, and she suffered the indignity of a worming, claw trim, and an injection. She satisfied herself with some mild hissing.

Pumpkin is booked in for his second Cartophen shot next Monday, on Christmas Eve. A few weeks ago I didn’t think he’d make it the extra month, but so he has. He’s wobbly but cheerful again, and that’s the main thing. He’s managing the tray well enough for that to not be a serious issue, and he gets picked up and carried on a regular basis which he genuinely seems to adore. Given that we pick him up to save him from running after us, he’s getting his wish of being close to the humans granted in the best possible way. It’s a bit hard on my wrist but nothing earth-shattering.

Last Thursday 13th we shifted to a single dose of steroids per day, and thus far it seems to be enough to keep him going. Minimal meds is good for both his liver and the ailing bank balance. It’s time to give his nether regions another close trim, so I shall deploy my sharpest scissors and steadiest hand.
