Am I the only one who didn't know that french fries were just potatoes cooked in oil? I mean, I knew they were primarily potatoes, but I thought they were mixed with a batter or something, but no, just sliced potatoes. Man, food is crazy.

Anyway, I learned that from T this weekend when he made us french fries this way. I was so impressed that ( Read more... )

haha... you're too funny. I think you are the only one who didn't know. :-p Why did you think there was a batter?

Since you're on a frying binge... try fried oreos!!! You need a batter for that though but yummmmmmmmy!

They just seem more complex to me than that. I didn't know cooking potatoes a certain way could make them change that way, I guess. And now I'm sort of mad that they're called "french fries" instead of "fried potatoes."

Also, I have a fundamental problem where I assume everything is more complicated than it actually is. I think this is a defense mechanism of mine that I've developed to ensure I remain unmotivated and lazy. (My car was once without a radio for three months 'cause I thought it would be too complicated to install myself -- it took about 30 seconds when I finally attempted it.)

I'm worried that if I try to deep fry anything again I may burn down the house. Although with the insurance policy, that's really not entirely a bad thing, so... fried Oreos here I come!

this post makes it so obvious that you've never been to in'n'out. next time you're in ca....

still, this is kinda coincidental because just the other day (when we were at in'n'out, actually) one of my friend's and i were trying to figure out how they made curly fries. we had all these elaborate ideas in our heads and it turns out that they just peel around the potato, hence, they're curly. cool, no?

Why does it make it obvious? Do you fry your own potatoes at In'N'Out?

of course not, but you see everything being made, including when they put the potato through the slicer thing and then fry them. that's why we were having the convo about the curly fries
