An epiphany regarding Neil Gaiman, Lisa Kudrow, and Betty White

O ye LJ friends, I submit to you this thought:

Rose from The Golden Girls and Phoebe from Friends are the same character.

And both are avatars of Delirium of the Endless.

Interesting. I'm having a hard time putting my finger on the quality they possess. It's not ditzy, per se, but there's a certain naivety there. A sort of paying attention to the unseen, the metaphysical plane. Truman Capote was a master at describing that particular character. I'm sure Delirium would consider him one of her own.

Yeah... "ditz" isn't quite right, but "cosmic flake-savant" is a bit overblown.

HAH!

Not as familiar with The Golden Girls, but the fact that the character seems to be aging in reverse sounds about right for Delirium. (What next -- child actors? o noes!)

You know, I thought I just meant that they were the same archetype -- the identical essence of character, adjusted for age and biographical details -- but it's actually way funnier your way.

Or hey, maybe, since Phoebe turned out to have Teri Garr as her secret mother, maybe Rose is her secret grandmother!

I thought Tori Amos was Delirium!

...and I think Lisa Kudrow patterned Phoebe's speech patterns after Tori, so there you have it. :)

hmm. I disagree. Because Delirium isn't dumb, she's just a little off. Rose is dumb most of the time. Phoebe is slightly off, but in a very uncool way. Delirium is cool.

Now, if you wanna tell me that Charlene from Designing Women and Rose are the same character, I will agree.

>>Rose is dumb most of the time.

No. She's very very naive. Not the same thing.

>>Phoebe is slightly off, but in a very uncool way.

Really? Why do you feel so?
