Adventures in Caucusing

Precinct 932 was a motley bunch. There were about 25 folks from our little neck of the woods ready to vote. I met two of our neighbors in our condo complex (the mom worked at a non-profit Jewish arts museum and the daughter is wanting to go to college for opera, how Dem is that? lol.) There were 14 precincts from Denver County and 3 from Arapahoe ( Read more... )

That sounds really fun. Were you free to try to persuade others to think like you do?

I wish that could work in a state as big as Florida.

Yes, in Colorado, you first take a "straw poll" to see where everyone stands. This is not recorded at all, and gives everyone an idea to speak their minds.

After the straw poll, 3 or 4 folks spoke on Obama's behalf. After that, one old guy stood up, said, "Babby's not experienced enough, I'm an old guy." That threw me off a bit, I was expecting more. It was obvious no one was going to change their minds in my precinct, so I said that while I was supporting Obama, I would vote for whoever got the nomination, and that party unity was important this year and blah blah blah. Our official vote was exactly the same as the straw poll. I figured it would roll that way, because everyone already had stickers and signs and were very excited about their candidate.

I'm probably going to work an election site come November, I signed up to be an election judge for my precinct. Apparently, I get paid somewhere around $100, I work a very long day, but I get to be part of the political process, which is super-exciting!

And I knew you would like this entry! :)

*sigh* I feel like I am one of the few fags who likes Clinton.

As nice as Obama is... he is an idealist... and it is my feeling that when idealists are thrust into DC executive politics and all of the shady dealings they entail... So they find that their theory of "use the shiny happiness of my parties ideal" falls on it's face in front of lobbyists and agendas... and then they become darker and meaner to actually get shit done and/or they start having a bunch of less scrupulous cronies doing all the dirty work while they play stupid. This is mainly what happened with W. He went in all shiny with compassionate conservatism, then had his think tank cronies take over. Granted, Obama wouldn't be associated with as much evil as W because Obama doesn't have Karl Rove as a campaign manager, but still.

Hillary has already been through the ringer in DC, so when she is talking about knowing how to deal and get things done on Capitol Hill, it's because she knows how to deal and get things done on Capitol Hill. Most of her detractors ( ... )

You are not the only gay in the village when it comes to supporting Clinton. Many of the gays are supporting her for some reason ( ... )
