well fuck you too. here's what i have to say: what stephen colbert did at the white house correspondents dinner was fucking amazing. normally the hired help takes light and comical jabs at the president and media. colbert did much more than that. he stayed in character the whole time, and it was very evident from the beginning that he wasnt ( Read more... )

.... and let's not forget the dixie chicks. they got a assload of coverage for something said at their private concert.

The only coverage I saw of the Dinner featured Bush's impersonator. Colbert was a footnote, at best, from what I saw the next day. But it sounds like most of the people in attendance "didn't get it."

I read some of the transcript. Frickin' hilarious stuff:
"So the white house has personnel changes. Then you write they're just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This ships not sinking.

This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on The Hindenburg..."

brent you're alive. yeah i figured you'd be the type to watch it but whatev. it WAS hilarious and it WAS overlooked by the media. i think the crowd got it, but they were afraid to laugh. maybe a bit of the idea that they are non-partisan (HA) or the idea that the administration punishes reporters for writing about them was on their mind too. but yes, ho-larious.
