Now that girls are allowed to become Scouts, I wonder how long it will be until Brownies and Guides die out? (As an institution, I mean... obviously one does not wish to speak of little Brownies dying.)

not always. originally it was set up as a military indoctrination type unit for young boys in the first world war. but girls have been able to be scouts for the past 10 years or so, i think.

Yeah, I mean "always" as in the scope of, like, my lifetime.

Sort of... I remember Haley (as in my ex girlfriend Haley) saying that she was the first girl cub in the state. From what I gather, her older brother was a cub and she insisted on going along with him, and they let her in for fear of looking sexist, and after that other girls started joining cubs and scouts as well. That would have been about 1986 or 87 or something like that.

I, conversely, maintained the opinion of "boys are icky" from about the age of 8 until... well... er... 19, and hence went to Brownies instead. So dweeby.
