Does it absolve them of guilt because they think therefore they're doing everything they can to make the grandparents come around? So when the grandparents inevitably continue being jackasses it's not their fault?

Well, it's not their fault anyway, so what's the point of making me, an innocent bystander, uncomfortable? :)

Thanks for letting me vent! I am just so fucking done with dealing with people I don't like. i do it enough at work and elsewhere I don't need it over precious vacations and holidays. :)

I can probably shorten it pretty much. I guess it comes down to whether or not I feel the awkwardness is worth it.

I'd have more patience if I didn't feel like I was just re-living my childhood. Not sure if I've told you anything about my Christmases (and every other interaction with my mother's family) for example, but it was filled with plenty of awkward conversations and simmering resentment under the surface. My mom's family hated my dad and definitely let him know it. We had to go and make nice, even when we were old enough to know about the ill-will. I had to smile at people who hated my dad and talked shit to him. It's...frustrating.

I guess I was lucky my grandma died before I got old enough to realize she hated my mom! Drama averted!

This situation feels similar because the GPs are mean to my FIL and I don't WANT to make nice! They pray for Edward's (and now probably my) soul! They hate teh gays!

I know it's not my fight but I hate playing this role. H8H8H8H8H8H8

I was extremely civil to them when I met them and when they came to my wedding. (of course, they weren't civil when they boycotted my communion but whatever). When I have to see them like at this wedding I will be polite and friendly.

I just don't want to do any extra! No phone calls being fake and no extra visits up there. His parents want so much! They were really pressuring me to go with Edward on a separate visit to Syracuse to see them. Um, why pretend I want to see them?

OMG. I do not want crazy family drama! I'd rather go visit people I want to see! I'll tell the story in another post.
