But there's something about doing new things and feeling like I'm actually getting somewhere that really kicks me in the ass. In the very good kind of way.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been interning with Alison Rudrud, the owner and event coordinator of
Daddy's Girl. It's been really exciting, and kind of a mystery how I suddenly fell into this industry of wedding planning and event coordination. But what's kind of scary... is that it's slowly starting to really grow on me. This whole past year I've been in panic mode about my future: I know what I like -- business management, entrepeneurship, independent work, projects, and the creative arts -- but I didn't know how to translate it into a career. And although I'm still figuring out if this industry is for me (due to its high stress levels, on-the-spot problem solving, and the occassional bridezilla), It's refreshing to feel like I'm getting closer to figuring out what I see myself doing for the rest of my life. Of course, the flexible hours and ability to work at home in a comfty pair of pajammies is a big plus.
The Malibu wedding I assisted at on the 20th was quite an intimiate affair. 20 people... including the bride, groom, and wedding party. It was such a beautiful night, and it definitely broke my mold of the cookie-cutter American wedding. That night really made me realize that it could be something I could see myself doing. Although the work and clients are constantly changing, the ability to be creative and think of something new is constant.
On a tangent, I have my first real event coordinating job this Saturday. It was a pretty spontaneous opportunity, considering the bride and groom's previous wedding planner bailed out on them last minute, but it's an exciting opportunity nonetheless. My sister will be helping with the floral arrangements and probably to keep me sane, but this will officially be my first event without Alison and with pay. I'm nervous. And going crazy in the head with organizing the plans and coming up with new ideas... but I guess I kind of like being crazy in the head. Hardy-har! Here's to Saturday being a success!

On the note of being productive, I've been working hardcore on the marketing for the donut shop. Looks like it's working considering the smoothie sales have doubled since the signs have been posted up. I'm trying to convince my mom to give me a percent profit for every smoothie they sell, but... I don't think my convincing is doing much, haha. Once the new menu gets put up and we set all the finishing touches to the new-and-improved
California Donuts, I'll be posting up some pictures.
'Til next time.
