The worse part is that it's not just the drug companise (though they're clearly evil and doing exactly what you're saying here), but it's everything you see on TV and almost everywhere else. We're suuposed to believe that if we only had that one more couch/shirt/pair of jeans/ipod/flat screen TV/cologne/hat/shoes/piece of furniture/WHATEVER that our lives will be complete. That we'll finally be satisfied with the world that we inhabit on a daily basis. BUT THIS NEVER HAPPENS! We get more and more useless material bullshit, and our lives are just as empty afterwards as they were before! We continue this sickening process of buy, get rid of, buy get rid of, buy get rid of... appropriate, expel, appropriate, expel, appropriate, expel... eat, shit, eat, shit, eat, shit (to reference Georges Bataille)... but out lives never improve in our minds because what is missing from out lives is NOT more material shit! A very good point, and another thing I have looked at for a long time. It is true that advertising makes it seem like all I need is that new stereo and suddenly my life will seem complete. Have you seen the scion commercials where it claims that buying their car will make you and individual, because apparently everyone owns exactly the same car, model, and color? Rediculous shit. So everyones buying macs, not pcs. Pcs prices would go down at first, but after awhile they wouldn't make them anymore. How many jobs would be lost? When we have nothing left to give
There will be no reason for us to live
But when we have nothing left to lose
You will have nothing left to use
We owe you nothing
You have no control
Merchandise keeps us in line
Common sense says it's by design
What could a businessman ever want more
than to have us sucking in his store
We owe you nothing
You have no control
You are not what you own
