To cling to things, people, reputation, possessions, and opinions is the way to suffering. You cannot grasp those things and, sooner or later, they will be ripped from you.

-derived from a book that mike let me borrow. (i was never one for essays and citing things properly, but its a good read so far)

But what is life without sentiment?
I say we need suffering.

But yeah, what book is this? I'd like to check it out.

I used to do that without thought and it led me to far too much doubt, in life, in love, in existence itself. There was a point in my life where I lived more in my dreams than I did when I was awake, I liked the people around me but I never trusted them, I used money but I never earned it, I read books but saw words after words but no meaning behind them. Everything was a pretension and I was afraid, constantly afraid, that I was alone, until a day when I denied to myself that I was really important enough to care whether this life existed or that there was more at all.

"Fear is the energy which contracts, closes down, draws in, runs, hides, hoards, harms.
Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, stays, reveals, shares, heals.
Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. "

~Conversations With God, by Neale Donald Walsh

So I guess the important thing is to love, trult love, which means to treasure things but not cling to
