Tuesdy Talk #7

I know I'm not the only one who, after a long and particularly discouraging day, cranks up my music to drown out negative feelings and make myself feel better. There's something definitely cathartic, something definitely emotionally cleansing about listening to your favorite bands sing about the follies of life and feeling a little less alone in ( Read more... )

Sufjan Stevens' "Chicago" helped me get through some hard times. It's such a beautiful song though: "I made a lot of mistakes." It just makes me feel better when I fuck something up or I'm the reason so-and-so isn't talking to me.

"Chicago" is gorgeous, too - I've never used it in a pick-me-up mix, but this totally reminds me that I really should. It's definitely got a wanderlust kind of feeling to it.

Once More With Feeling (Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.)
<33333333 I love this song.

The three songs that always make me feel better are Coldplay's High Speed, Everything's Not Lost, and Amsterdam.

Of course, I have a huuuuge playlist for pick-me-up songs, but I think I'd end up trying to describe every single one of them which would lead to a massive essay =P

Coldplay! ♥ I love Amsterdam too, but I think my favorite Coldplay song to emo out to is probably Fix You ♥

I have a huuuuge playlist (or, playlists plural) for pick-me-up songs. I might post one of them up sometime :)

And that song is just... a;skfj;ad. I remember first hearing it and just being blown away.

I like chill songs too, when I'm feeling really bleh, but when I'm angry I start cranking up the volume. I haven't actually heard a lot of the songs on your list, but man, when I was a little kid, I used to love 'Killing Me Softly' *___*

I normally use my chill-out mix for lazy weekend afternoons, when I've got a steaming mug of green tea in one hand and a good book in the other. Very relaxing!

The first song that actually comes to mind is Carrie Underwoods "So Small" from her second album "Carnival Ride" and if anyone would upload that, they'd be star in sharing this wonderful singer's music -shot- The lyrics are about love - as a lot of songs are - but it's sort of saying that no matter what happens, no matter how bad or mad or horrible things are, are the end of the day, love matters the most - and it does, really.

So yeah, So Small is like... A winsome song in every way xD;;

I'm a big fan of Audrey Hepburn's acting, actually, especially in My Fair Lady - her Cockney accent was just lovelovelovelovelove - and her performance in Breakfast at Tiffany's was astounding as well, and Moon River is such a beautiful song~ ♥

I have been told by many people that I apparently listen to "sad music" (but not like, stereotypical emo, just generally sad songs). WHATEVER THAT MEANS.

Some bands I enjoy, that happen to have sad music:
Radiohead
Explosions in the Sky
Margot & the Nuclear So-and-So's

Some songs in particular:
The Submarines, "Brighter Discontent"
Augie March, "There Is No Such Place"
Junior Boys, "FM"
Sia, "Breathe Me"

If it's like heartbroken sadness, I'd recommend The Perishers, or just go with the Death Cab For Cutie standard. In my opinion, that kind of music is unbearable in normal situations, but when you're sad ... well, it works!
