While I was reading Taiaiake Alfred’s essay I must say that I found it a little hard to follow. It seemed as though he was giving a history lesson. It is obvious that it’s more intended to higher educational reader.  The way he words things makes it a little difficult to understand. I agree that this article did feel like a lecture of some sort; for me it felt a bit like an anti-racism lecture. It was certainly aimed towards a higher educated audience as well as his own people whom are more familiar with what he has to say. I agree that Alfred's main point was to not resort to violence and to stand up for yourself.
As far as your question, as much as I'm aware that racism still exists, I don't find it to be as big of an issue now. I'm not making the statement that caucasian people are not at all racist, the unfortunate truth is that regardless of ethnicity racism still exists.

I have to say that I dont quite agree with Alfreds comment that "white society" is more racist towards the Indigenous peolpe. Unfortantly there still is alot of racsim out there and its not all from caucasian society. I was bit disturbed when he wrote that comment. I understand that their history and culture was taken away from by a caucasian society, but we all have been trying to make amends.
