First of all this was a very inspiring piece of writing, I was well aware of what was going on in Africa but had seemed to forget those issues. This was a difficult article to write about since there was so much information to take in. But you learned so much more about Africa.  After reading this, it has opened my eyes to realize so much more ( Read more... )

This article did inspire me to want to help Africa in any way I could. As I mentioned in my blog, compared to the many times throughout my life that the conditions in Africa were brought to my attention, Stephen Lewis had the biggest affect on me. His stories and passion for Africa really rubbed off on me.

If I could afford it, I would love to go to Africa myself to help make a difference. That would be an amazing experience. I think a more realistic way I could help would be to sponsor a child or family in Africa. I believe that it is true when they say a small amount of money each month can go a long way for a struggling family. Another way to help make Africa a better place would be to do as Stephen Lewis is doing and shine light on the situation and inform people that may not be aware of the conditions in which people in Africa are living in. what would you do?

You did a great job of focusing your blog on the VAPID points while still expressing what you thought about "Pandemic".

While I agree that "everyone should be aware of what is going on in Africa" I don't think means everyone is the intended audience of this piece.

As far as helping Africa I find it useful to break the giant issue of dehumanizing numbers (as Lewis put it) into individuals. If I consider the $10 more it would cost me to eat at a restaurant instead of at home one time, and then weigh that against the good that $10 could do in Africa I can choose in that one instance to set aside the $10 as a donation. For some reason it is easier for me to give up dining out 10 different times than donate $100 once.
