I was in the same position as you, I recognized David suzuki when I googled him but I wasn’t familiar with the work that he had done. I had never heard of Josef Mengele either. I was shocked when I googled him and learned of the experiments and horrible things he did to people during the Holocaust, which I guess answers your question to the class. I definetly agree with David Suzuki when he says “We don’t learn that geneticists were the prime movers behind the Nazi Race Purification program…”, because as I said, I had never heard of Mengele or the experiments that went on during the Holocaust. I used to think that the people were being tortured out of pure hatred and racism, not for the purpose of science. I definetly think the role scientists had in the Holocaust should be acknowledged.

I agree with you that I found this piece hard to follow. You did a great job in summarizing the points Suzuki was trying to make in this essay, which I had some difficulty with. I also agree that this essay was aimed towards people focussed on science as well as other scientists.

As far as your question for the class, I would have to agree with Suzuki seeing as reading this article has been the first time I've learned about these facts.
