Speed Dating advice- think of unique questions to ask. Everyone is going to ask "what are you studying?" and you want to stand out.

My personal favorite is "Do you have any Jew in you?"

If the answer is yes, it goes nowhere, but if the answer is no, that immediately segues into "Do you want some?"

... I suppose that's bad advice for Steve.

Does that mean you've done Speed Dating yourself, Eric? What was your impression of it?

Anyway, probably "in the last week I finally ended years of waffling and filed paperwork to abandon my PhD so I can just get down to teaching" will make me stand out. Maybe not in the best of ways... but it'll at least be unusual. :)
