Nausicaa

On last Wednesday I went to see "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" play at a local arthouse theater. I was thrilled when I found out that it was playing... it seems likely that at some point in my life -- assuming I live several more decades -- I will get a second chance to see this movie projected from film instead of on a TV screen, but I didn't ( Read more... )

I hate to post a "me too!" comment to such a thoughtful post, but Nausicaa is probably one of my favorite Miyazaki movies. In my case, it's a story that's been with me since childhood, and the images, dialogue, and music have all stayed with me. I'm glad those kids in the audience got to see it on a big screen.

Hmm... I've not yet seen it, but I was fortunate enough to have a friend who loaned me a bit of the manga several years ago and loved it. I'll have to keep an eye out for this.

As I wrote above, the manga is far better. It's more sophisticated, more detailed, etc.. Still, the film is such a joy to watch, assuming you can endure/appreciate the occasional 80s synth that mixes in with the orchestral score. :)

I was thrilled to catch The Iron Giant about a month ago as part of the same series. There's definitely an extra impact in getting to see a beloved movie on the big screen.

Yeah, I saw that on the fliers... I wish I'd known about the series earlier, as I would have loved to see that one in a theater as well.
