How do you make a mix tape? I can never seem to get them perfectly right. I have sort of a formula, but it's a bit fuzzy. So what is your strategy? Do you use a theme?( Read more... )

Yeah, I tend to use a theme. Usually it's determined as an emotional theme, in which case I'm trying to move myself from feeling one way to feeling another, and the path is pretty self-explanatory, but even then I try to mix it up fast/slow/slow/fast...
Other times it's a tape for someone else, in which case, it's generally a "here's a bunch of songs I like that I bet you've never heard of" which doesn't usually turn out too well... at least, it never does quite what I want it to...
Still other times, it's a soundtrack tape... like, "driving to ____: the soundtrack" or "Tuesday: the soundtrack"
I'm probably just as weird for putting this much thought into it... so there you go.
