Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?

So I went to see Watchmen at the cinema this morning with sirius_moonshdw  and Adrian and Andy Nolan.

I very much enjoyed it. And this is having read the actual graphic novel original, something that doesn't usually occur. "Ah, but the comic was sooo much better than the film adaptation!" they decry. Yes, it was a better piece of literature. But the film isn't trying to be a piece of literature; it's an adaptation for cinema, and as such it does its job very well.

The characterisation was impeccable. Every actor portrayed their character exactly as I would have expected, voices and everything (even the dude playing Ozymandias was great - something I didn't reckon from the trailers and stills. The fella playing Rorschach did look a lot like Dave Ellison, mind. :S

There were definite and noticeable changes from the original; some good, some less so. The entire ending was changed (and as such, seemed a little bit like a cheat) to make Dr. Manhattan's motives for leaving Earth more noticeable. The intimate scene aboard Archimedes was a little too long for my tastes. Also, on the subject of long, there was an unexpected amount of Dr Manhattan dong; being, as it was, "four storeys high and made of radia-shun".

But all in all, I enjoyed it very much. I give it four blood-spattered smileys out of five. :)

The day was rounded off with a trip to Water Margin (for the whole group) and a nice haircut (for me). Great times!
