Wow, this paragraph floored me the way Jack started and couldn't really say everything, but got enough out for ma Twist to know what was going on. Wonderfully, painfully written:
“He accused me of…,” here Jack just shrugged his shoulders not willing to get into that with his mother, “he was gonna hit me.” Jack rushed on to try to explain to his mother before she thought the worst. “He’s sorry, ya know, he thought that I was…well, he kinda got ahead of himself and said some things…” Jack got up and walked around the kitchen too agitated to stay sitting…Buck lying by the door following Jack’s every movement with his eyes."
Well what we definitely have here is 'fear' -- Jack fearing being victimized and abused, and Ennis fearing losing Jack -- either because of his own stupidity or by someone taking Jack from him. The title of this series is showing itself more and more with every chapter.... fear.
As you said fear is everything in this story. If Ennis hadn't feared staying with Jack after the mountain, if Jack hadn't feared that Ennis wouldn't love him, if J.D. hadn't feared talking to someone about Nathan, if Ennis hadn't feared that Jack was seeing other men, if Jack hadn't feared a repeat of Wade's abuse...
If not for fear, many people's lives would have been different.
Thanks for your kind words. Stay tuned for the finale chapters.

By finale, I mean that there are a couple more chapters on the way which will take this story to an end...unless some strange and bizarre incident happens that forces me to continue.
I believe I have gone as far as I can with this story, once the last chapters are written. We will see if another one springs forth from the Ennis and Jack muses.
I am pleased that you like my work and hope you enjoy the rest of the story.
