1) pittsfisting wins the superbowl. i don't think anyone deserves to win anything. but the pukes were the better team going into this thing. big love to arizona for playing like fucking beasts. terrible officiating on both sides of the ball. and i honestly believed that it edged things to pittsfisting. how do we not booth review a possible turn ( Read more... )

Heh, as much as I love Generation Kill, you did more or less nail it. And I agree that it is probably the most humanized look at soldiering to date (said by someone who as been there, I mean, not "there there", but there...in the Marines). I feel like Jarhead more or less nailed it as well. At least as far as modern soldiering and warfare goes, those two are pretty great... Band of Brothers gets it the most right, but I wasn't alive sixty years ago, so what do I know?

there's a documentary out on Minka, the woman with the second-largest implants. It's pretty sad - her husband/manager said he'd leave her if she ever got them removed. Why? Because she wouldn't be a "commodity" anymore.

Just to weigh in on the Emperor topic...

In The Nightside Eclipse is my jam. I think they got weaker with each album, as I don't like all of the keyboard / atmospheric nonsense. There are some pre-'Eclipse demos that are totally raw and scathing. Put that in your Soulseek queue and smoke it.

Also, insulting Darkthrone's production is like saying McDonald's has shitty food. Everyone already knows it, but sometimes that just what you want.

nightside is great. but welkin has all that fury plus really great arrangement and sound. i like the keyboards and the bigger scope of the thing. especially the choral background stuff they throw in. truly haunting shit. IX equilibrium is a bit too much for me. and im not knocking nightside at all. just saying i prefer one over the other.

and i dont care if everyone knows it. it sounds terrible. and yes, i want it, usually once a week, for no reason. like mcdonalds.

i'm going to agree with you on the emperor remark. all around great production, and some of the more intense songs the genre's had to offer. those guys and the complimentary gorgoroth shit ("incipit satan" being my favorite) kind of rule the genre for me. the krallice cd a close 3rd.
