So, the world is abuzz with news of the PS3 price point, due to some comments from some dude in France. If those price points remain when it comes to the American market, at $600-700, it will certainly be a tough sell. What might make it somewhat easier is lowering the price to around $500, but it will still be substantially more than the XBox 360

I wouldn't doubt that it is true. Sony is easily the most arrogant of the three companies (and perhaps deservedly so), and I could definitely see them trying a stunt like that. Maybe they just aren't interested in competing in the games market at all anymore, and they'll focus on set-top boxes instead. It's the only way I can see it working.
