* My dad and I went to my mom's grave this afternoon. I was glad to see that the butterfly wind chimes I had hung on the nearby tree on Mother's day were still there. Wow, I could actually feel the nostalgic melancholy of reading those old letters and cards. And I like the image of the teeter-totter and high chair and steamer trunk.
It must be cool to live in a house that has been in the family for generations. You have roots.

So what's this, a half month later. I made the above entry just before working a crazy, 60 hour week at work.

There is something to be said for living in a house that has been in the family for so long. The trick is to leave room for some of that history while making way for my own lifestyle. The funny thing is that even when I was pretty young, I used to imagine that this house would be mine someday. I guess there is truth to that old saying about being careful what you wish for. :)
