Currently, The Late Show is having "Ventriloquist Week". Last night David Letterman said that Willie Tyler and Lester would be appearing. He then listed the ventriloquist teams that would be on each night for the rest of the week. "However," he said, "Not appearing will be Carl Rove and George W. Bush." Heh, heh ( Read more... )

Eek! You know you're gonna start having nightmares about a possessed ventriloquist's dummy running around your house, giggling maniacally as he disappears around the corner… ;)

I used to dabble in it myself years ago. I once had a Danny 'O Day, and a Charlie McCarthy, and a Mortimer Snerd. I think I had a Lester too. The plastic versions. I was really into all kinds of puppets as a kid.

I could substitute D's for B's OK, but it was getting the D's to sound like B's which was the hard part.

Wow, four dummies. Sounds like more than dabbling. Do you still have any of them?

I hear you about the hard vowel replacement. Jimmy John always sounded like, "Doy, oh doy, non is really gonna de nad!"

Now all I need him to say is, "Trick or treat!" and "Thank you." Long story.
