Out of the Habit...

Tim and I used to be fully paid-up members of the consumerist society.  We always had the "must-have" gadgets, and we could think of nothing nicer to do on a weekend than go shopping.

Needless to say, we got out of the habit.

We do still buy things, although these days we try to do it as little as possible.  However, when both of Tim's good pairs of ( Read more... )

I admit to the Poundland habit. I went in there today to stock up on those 'bathroom cupboard things' the kids go through and stationary - and found a nice thick kids puzzle book right in time for the school holiday. If you don't get dazzled by all the tat, it can be worth dropping into.

I don't do recreational shopping so much as with my limited energy most things need planning like a battle campaign, so I take a list of which shops I want to go to, and I've usually worked out the optimum order and where to fit in breaks for coffee etc.. plus half the time the shops won't have the things I want so I end up browsing and poking at things but ultimately not spending much. Plus I have a tendency to pick up shinies that just sit around catching dust so (along with watching the finances) I try not to do impulse shopping, unless impulse counts as "if you see some pretty wool in John Lewis you can have some ( ... )
