you dun know how envious i am of that. i hung around hoping to score stuff out the skips of coopers when it closed. but no. do you know anyone who has photos of the place? it was surely the most out-of-time commercial premises in brighton...
I also managed to salvage a red piece of Formica with a b&w photo of a man cut out of a magazine stuck to it, and a hand-lettered sign which I gave to Alasdair. Everything else had been chucked away - the skip had been removed !! Tragic. I'll get the former item scanned sometime, and I'll have to try to borrow the latter one back and scan and post it, though it's slightly grotty as it's encased in dirty polythene. The guy who did the signwriting is a local character - you might know (of) him : Aubrey. He's about 82 and wears a navy coat and a hat and has thick black-framed specs. He's often in the London Road/Duke Of York's area, and knows everything there is to know about changes to Brighton.
yeh that fella walks past my house every day. didn't know he did that though. funnily enough i've got a pal called aubrey who is a signwriter. that can't be too common a combination of name/vocation
