personality:
When compared to Doctor Warren Vidic, people would choose to spend most of their quality time with Lucy Stillman and who can truly blame them? When faced with the choice to meet and greet with someone as hardened and cold as Vidic or someone as tempered as Lucy, the choice is fairly obvious. Contradictory to Vidic’s personality, Lucy is a very patient woman with a much more bearable personality than his, which makes it odd that she would make a living by being the man’s assistant, but one can’t always choose their boss, considering. Although being rather patient, she does get and is affected just as others are when it comes to high stress levels, something that is shown as either being irate or simply being a worrier when she’s under an abundance of stress.
She tends to be rather sympathetic to those she’s being asked to test on, such as Desmond Miles, even going as far as pleading with her boss to give their subjects time to rest between memory revivals through the Animus. In her opinion they need some time to relax and gather bearings before heading in deeper still within the machine and thus their minds; or sorts, something that Vidic finds obsolete and a waste of his and the subject’s time, however he allows it much to Lucy’s surprise.
There is more to her than the simple caring personality that she lets on, however. While she is a sweet and charming girl on the surface for test subjects, Lucy has another side to her entirely that she doesn’t let show all that often.
Despite being the girl who wears office skirts while at work and greets with a “yes sir/yes ma’am” attitude, she is a member of the Assassins guild which both give her a set of skills to use as well as another page in her personality entirely. Cunning, resourceful and quick with a baton as her weapon of choice - Lucy is able to deceive just as well as any other of the persons of the Assassin’s team. She’s also very capable of taking care of herself assuming the situation she’s fallen into calls for it.
She’s often rather calm for the most part and is in actually rather hardened herself, but displays sensitivity and regret when faced with various things such as the death of colleagues, Desmond’s situation and her role in the loss of Subject 16’s sanity - something that she’d prefer not to discuss if she can help it. That said however, she isn’t afraid to joke or tease if the situation calls for it or simply if she finds herself wanting to do so, however she prefers to keep such pleasantries between herself and the people that she’s close to rather than strangers.
Lucy can be described, by the other assassins she makes her time with, as cold and distant and those would be rather true words for her. She has a tendency to keep to herself and push her emotions to the side in order to focus on her work with the animus and Desmond Miles’ memory recovery. Professionalism becomes her, often choosing to ignore most of the playful banter that her teammates enjoy taking part with. She typically has a high level of tolerance for shenanigans while they all work together but will, should it become necessary, can easily be the one to destroy all their fun with a nudge or reminder that work needs to be done.
She’s rather defensive when it comes to certain things and aspects of her life. As a very private person, she doesn’t open up to people much, not even those she would consider to be her ‘closest’ friends. There are areas of her past she would rather forget about, that she has worked hard on keeping secretive and does her best not to think of them although with Desmond and the animus around her as constant reminders, she has issues with it from time to time. Despite that being a weakness of hers of sorts, or rather Desmond himself being a weakness of hers, she does her best to hide such from others and will deny it should someone bring it up to her for whatever reason.
The assassin team leader is also rather fond of and defensive toward her favorite yogurt, which has often led to her being brash and punishing whomever steals it (re: Shaun Hastings) unfairly just for eating some of her foods.
abilities/powers:
Being a member of the Assassin’s, Lucy is very much able to take care of herself and will do so if she feels she needs to. Threatening her with result in one of two ways; either with her pretending to be shocked and worried about the situation or simply putting the nearest object she can find to use as a weapon to use on whomever it is who is threatening her. She’s talented with a variety of weapons but has a tendency to favor the use of a collapsible baton. She has the same kind of knowledge as the others in order to keep herself from being harmed physically or simply to blend in with a crowd so not to be suspected or spotted.
She does not, however, possess the ability to use the “eagle eye” that Desmond does nor does she wish to. She’d prefer the simple method of kicking someone’s ass, although she’ll admit if asked that the ability would probably aid her in her day-to-day activities that involve hiding from the Templars.
first person sample:
Are you two still arguing?
( crystalline blue eyes lifted from the computer screen they had been gazing rather intently at. despite their beauty, they were cold and had a look of pure irritation to them. the blond looked to both the British historian and her technician, glaring to them. )
Do you really have to bicker the whole time he’s in there? ( she, of course, was referring to Desmond being in the animus Rebecca had created. ) I mean, really? And just what the hell are you really complaining about this time?
Fighting about iPods again? Complaining about who’s going to go get the food? Or are you two just calling each other names to pass the time at this point? Look, I get it - there’s not a whole lot for us to do at the moment while he’s in there, this particular memory dive isn’t really thrilling or anything, but there are still things that we need to get done.
( before she could retort, Lucy gave Rebecca a warning glare. )
Don’t even start with me. I know you’re monitoring things and are making sure to keep his health in check, but you’re still bickering with Shaun and it’s driving me nuts. How are we supposed to get shit done while he’s unconscious in there?
This might not be a proper lab or whatever, but maintain a little professionalism, for Christ’s sake.
( after a brief moment, she adds: )
And watch who you try to email about my being a hardass, Shaun. Which reminds me - the bathrooms are in need of cleaning. You should probably get on that, don’t you think?
third person sample:
Shaun was busy, as always; reading, researching and rewriting things to be input into the Animus for future use. In other words, he was ignoring just about everything and everyone around him for his work, but Lucy was used to that and didn’t really mind it in the first place. The less bickering with him the better, she thought. Rebecca had been monitoring the machine and the young man hooked up to it until she crashed on her desk for the night, something that the blond couldn’t blame her for. They had all been working rather hard on this, Desmond perhaps the hardest of all of them, but they had all been putting in some great efforts if only to keep this hideout a secret as well as trying to keep him safe whilst inside the memories he was reliving as someone else through the abilities of the machine.
Softly pulling some of the papers from under Rebecca’s arm as she slept, Lucy tugged a stray chair up and set it gently down to the floor next to Desmond, or rather the Animus and scanned the papers for any indications that he might be in need of getting out of there, just in case. One could never expect everything to run smoothly and without any form of error when using a machine like this, especially when they were using it for what they were using it for - accessing memories was a rather dangerous thing in the first place, it wasn’t something to be toyed with and while she knew that, she couldn’t stop herself from fretting and worrying about the outcomes of each and every time that they used the ‘baby’.
Leaning forward, she tossed the papers onto Rebecca’s desk nearby and then leaned back in her chair, pressing the heels of her palms to her eyes, giving a rub as she yawned. Dropping her arms to her sides and letting them dangle over the arms of the chair, Lucy closed her eyes and tilted her head back just slightly as she waited for any notice of something that might happen, keeping a ‘watch’ of sorts on Desmond.
“I think I worry too much,” she muttered, mostly to herself. Shaun’s being awake didn’t mean that she was conversing with him after all and besides, she was more or less speaking with; or rather to, Desmond. Shifting her position, she sat up for a moment before leaning to set her elbows to her thighs and her chin to rest into her palms, looking over the man Vidic had dubbed ‘Subject 17.’ “About you, about this machine… You know, about everything. But, there’s cause for worry when it comes to this whole thing. Experience talks after all and it seems to enjoy screaming at me. Especially about…”
She sighed however, trailing off for the moment. Closing her eyes, she did smile rather softly as she continued though. “But you seem a bit stronger than he was. Not that Subject 16 was a weak willed person. I’d never think something like that. After everything that he did and found for us, after all the tests and all the results we got from him - I’d never consider him to be a weak human being. But you’re still different from him, in a variety of ways really. Just because you have the same ability to use this thing doesn’t make you the same after all. I really admire this from you, you know?”
Her smile widened though remained gentle in expression. Opening her eyes, she glanced to him from the corners of them. “You didn’t have to keep helping us out and it seemed like even before I got the words out of my mouth you were jumping on the idea of finishing what we’d begun. I wonder if that was more for you though. To keep reliving what your ancestors did, I mean… I can’t blame you for that; I would be interested in seeing things and knowing things the way they did, too.”
“Still, you’re kind of sweet for it, Desmond. There aren’t a lot of people I can say I trust without a doubt, but when it comes to you? I can, easily. That’s a nice feeling to be able to actually feel and admit, actually. I just have to hope, you know? Hope that the same thing doesn’t happen to you.” She paused, sighing lightly. “I don’t know what I’ll do if…”
Her brows knitted together in a soft frown, shifting to drop her arms between her legs, Lucy turned to look at Desmond more fully and watched him for a moment. He looked strange all hooked up to the machine but as though sleeping was all he was doing nonetheless. Heaving a heavy sigh, she shook her head and moved her gaze to the floor before giving a light chuckle to herself, almost sarcastically, as though thinking she was being somewhat strange in the few moments beforehand.
“Why am I even talking to you?” Lucy pushed herself to stand from the chair again, turning to look at him one last before shaking her head and leaving his side to go check on Shaun.
“You can’t even hear me.”
