Warnings: Spoilers for Chapter 58 and on, violent character death
Effects: Confusion, horror and a healthy dose of denial
It's a dream that she's had before. Five times in as many days, actually. It's replayed in exactly the same way every time; the fire engulfing the house, pushing Elliot and Vanessa out into the hallways. Elliot passed out on the ground, unresponsive to her calls. His useless servant rushing in to alert them that Hans and several other Pandora officials' heads have been cut off.
Just as it did back then, the statement enrages her enough to shove the boy down the flight of stairs, accusing him of murdering those people himself. And just as it happened before, he tells her to stay there and watch over Elliot while he gets help, ignoring her accusations outright. Playing the hero...such a pathetic child.
But then, she hears her brother stir behind her. Relieved, she turns to greet him, to help him down the stairs and pray that Leo has actually managed to find someone to help them in the midst of all of the chaos, but instead of her brother standing at the top of the stairs, she sees a monster. A round, hideous looking creature poised over her brother's shoulder, a huge bloodied tongue twisting around the bother of them, ready to whip out and strike her.
She calls Elliot's name, but he doesn't respond. His face is completely emotionless as the monster attacks and severs her head from her body, the blood coating the stairs as her head tumbles downwards and lands in the same place that Leo's body had only moments before.
But the dream doesn't end there. Though her memories of the moment just before her death have ended, it continues on. There's a rapid heartbeat, strained breathing and a plead so weak and pathetic that even in her dream she realizes how feeble and ridiculous she sounds. "Elliot! I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Please...I forgive you!" Though she no longer has a voice to use, eyes to cry from, she can somehow feel the tears on her face.
There's no answer from her brother; only the loud screeching, guttural sound that the creature had given just before he'd sliced through her neck, echoing through her ears once more.
She awakes with a start, gasping for air and ending up choking on what little she manages to take in fully. Her face is pale, damp with sweat, cheeks flushed and fevered. She raises a hand to her forehead and rolls over onto her side, breathing finally settling.
"Again...?" she whispers, hoarsely. Shivering, she reaches down to grab the blanket and pull it back over herself, and only when it's tucked up under her chin does she notice that, unlike the last five nights, tonight her dream was actually recorded. She swears under her breath and clumsily grabs the Dreamberry, turning it off quickly. Another minute and the dream will be filtered away from Elliot. There's no need for him to relive that pain as well.
A minute later, however, her voice reappears over the Dreamberry, but the video function is turned off this time, and it's still filtered away from Elliot. "The nearest pharmacy to Espoir...does anyone know where one might find it?"
