A Potential Solution for Throwbacks

Dec 11, 2008 21:50

Every Seed has Throwbacks--negative and/or strange aspects of the Seeding that become more and more pronounced as the Seed in question grows in power. Each Seed /must/ take one dot of Throwbacks upon character creation. A seed may suffer more dots of Throwback than mandated, but the player should generally only do this if they wish to burden their ( Read more... )

A minimum number of Throwback dots equal to Mythos? Does this continue to be incurred as you raise Mythos post-chargen? This seems awfully harsh to me. I thought we were leaning towards one or two starter Throwbacks regardless of Mythos, and then from Mythos 4 onward taking an additional dot of Throwback every time Mythos is raised.

Yeah, you're right, I forgot what we'd worked out earlier and substituted something of my own design for it. I've edited the post to reflect this.

Something I might suggest:

Some kind of dependency throwbacks, for those Seeds who, in mythology, require something specific to survive, be it environmental, or a type of food, or something else.

Another one, though more for NPCs rather than PCs, really, but the possibility:

Bound - +1 for Mild, +2 for Moderate, +3 for Extreme
You can't go beyond a range from a Genius Loci, or need to return on a frequent basis. A mild binding means you have a fairly wide range, or you only need to return once every six weeks. Moderate means you are limited to within a moderate radius (think a tri-state area or some such), or need to return every three weeks. Extreme means you are bound to a tight radius, or need to return once every few days.

Opinions?

I like! It's been added, though tweaked slightly to accomodate characters who might be Bound to an object instead of a location.

Another question regarding throwbacks: Are you forced to have a minimum number of throwbacks, OR is it you have two DOTS of throwbacks?

Do we get anything for taking higher dots of throwbacks off the bat?

I'm curious.

Edited text to clarify.

You get two Throwbacks. They can be of any dot level. There is no incentive for taking high-level Throwbacks, beyond 'it makes IC sense for my Seed'. Do you think we should have one?
