I should probably actually look at my Yahoo mail. I don't really know why I keep the account anymore after the great Groups implosion of... 2020? (not that every single one of them wasn't dead already), other than I sometimes use the address as a spam trap or for testing email setup on my websites, since Yahoo is notoriously picky about accepting incoming email.
NextDoor can sometimes be a decent place to offer "hey, we've got an X we don't need, anyone want to come down the street and pick it up" rather than trying to leave it on the curb or take it to the dump, and can also be ok for getting recommendations like, we need our backyard fence replaced, can anyone in the area recommend a company they were satisfied with. But then of course other times it's not even a wretched hive of scum and villainy, it's whatever the next level is beyond that. Our neighborhood is mostly a mix of white, Chinese, and Indian and it's amazing all the casual racism on display from all directions, sometimes...
I tried to unsubscribe from NextDoor. It said "Do you want to unsubscribe from _Crime Watch_?" So I guess one can pick and choose which types of entries to follow? It would take some effort to unfollow all categories lol. I wouldn't mind following lost/found pets, or free or for sale posts, like you mentioned. But the repetition of "I saw a strange man in my driveway here's a blurry picture I took from a crack in my curtains" is too awful to describe.
I must have managed it because I never get any notifications from it about anything, lol. I don't think I even get the "emergency alert" kind of things. But yeah the "this guy r suspicious!!!" things are like *eyeroll*
I signed up to Next Door as well, when it first became a thing. it's a good exercise for automatic deletion I find. Honestly I can't get rid of this thing. I've unsubscribed 42 times and I still keep getting messages from them.
