My god it's just like summer

I've lived in Central California since I was 14, and I know all the things you have to do to outwit the summer heat. But the people who never seem to get used to the summer heat are the morning newscasters. They spend three hours every single morning expressing their combined surprise and amazement that seasonal weather is happening again. The " ( Read more... )

Y'know... "newcasters" and "meteorologists" seem only to be hired as pretty faces. They do not know shit. You know how I figure out what the weather will be like that day? I go to the doppler (or, as I like to call it, "the blob map") see what the trajectory is for the "storm", and decide whether it will pass us by, or hit us. Most of the time, I am more accurate than they are. It reminds me of when Paul was laid off and temporarily working at a pizza shop, doing deliveries. They had a football pool. They let me play, even though I didn't technically work there. (They probably thought: Oh, a female! WTH does SHE know? Let's take her money!) Anyway, I had a system. They went by statistics. I went by the mascots. Which mascot could beat the other mascot. I won so often that they disbanded the football pool.

You placed bets based on the mascots? And you won? I'm completely floored by this and now I must know more. :)

The San Francisco Giants' mascot is a seal named Lou Seal. She is a big girl, but clearly a lover, not a fighter, which may explain our standings in the league right now. :D

I think every morning news program on every station in America is the same way. But until I retired, I never realized how much "weathering" was done on the morning news. I had to be at work at 7:00am so I was already on the road by 6:40.

I mean... I think hot weather is beginning sooner and there's more instances of extreme days (90+ F)... Like here in the SF Bay area we're having a solid week of temperatures 10-20 degrees in excess of average, which is probably remarkable (in the literal sense). But yeah, kind of an annual occurrence guys, if you hadn't noticed...
