Delight-free

Sorry, no delights the last few days, unless you count my delight at seeing the new Fantastic Beasts trailer. OMG, it looks like it's going to be so cool, with its American magical sensibilities, its period costumes, and the beauteous Eddie Tremayne carrying a case full of mysterious beings ( Read more... )

I think that trailer counts as my December delight for the whole month. Possibly my 2015 Delight.

People are going CRAAAAAAAAAAAZY over the trailer on tumblr. Might not be my preferred platform, but it's giving me great hope for the fandom.

I'm surfing the #fantastic beasts tag right now, and it's like... hundreds and hundreds of people hailing the return of HP fandom. I'm so freaking excited that I've almost gone numb on overload, you know? BUT I CAN'T STOP. XD

There's an account on Tumblr, American Wizarding, that has spun some great headcanon accounts of the wizarding world in the States.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, I'm not really a big film watcher and having really disliked the HP films, I don't have a solid basis to get excited about this. I also don't find the lead attractive so there's none of that either.

There's also the plot itself, which while sounding serviceable and kid-friendly is ringing alarm bells to me that this will be another film like Jurassic World where I'm watching a bunch of pixels (beautifully rendered though they may be) bash into each other on screen in a CGI overload.

And lastly, I have no emotional attachment to any aspect of the world or characters. It's set in the US with brand new characters. They may turn out to be wonderful and a great addition to the series film canon, but there's no emotional hook to hang my hat on yet so it's tough to get too excited about it.

If it's an awesome film, then the second one may generate buzz, but this first outing is an unknown, so I'm reserving squee.

The trailer makes my heart go all pitter-pat with wizarding world love! I'm not sure I'll go all fannish over this as with the books (I mean with fic and such), but I'm going to enjoy the hell out of those movies, oh yes. The latest expansions of JKR's universe just hit an uncritically gleeful spot in my brain - I can't help it. And I love all the HP magical creatures lore anyway; it's one of my favourite parts of JKR's world-building.

I hope you and the groom will make peace soon! Holiday stress sure doesn't help on marital harmony. *sends hugs*

We made peace. We've been married too long to boggle about the little things--at least not for long.

Very excited about the upcoming movie!

Thank you, babe. I fear yours may not arrive in time, but this is due to my ineptitude, not planning.

To be honest at this point I like fandom more than the HP brand. But I like it. I'm intrigued about what will happen.
