It is dawn when Mel wakes up, because she always wakes up at that time. The curtains are shut, so currently she doesn't see the first rays of the sun. Which is a good thing ( Read more... )

Gibbs is blissfully asleep having happy dreams about fixing clockwork elephants who will then eat the sea of tin peanuts that has filled the bedroom so he and Melinda can have some alone time.

And then there's a scream and AUGH flailing and falling out of bed. Slightly bruised, he runs for the sound of her voice, desperately hoping it's only a really big spider.

Unfortunatly, it's not. When Gibbs gets down there, he's going to notice two things - that there's some smoke in the air, and that Mel is curled up under the table, and that smoke is coming from her. She's whimpering quietly. "Cornelius? Cornelius, sh-shut the window... ow ow ow ow..."

She's... healing from the burns, as he watches. Her eyes are shut at the moment, and her arm is blocking the rest of her face, so he won't see the fangs, either. Yet.

Horrified, he shuts the window with a bang, then runs back into the bedroom and fetches a blanket. It's registered that the sunlight is burning her and it must be some weird LOL, so he throws the blanket over the table she's hiding under, like a child's fort, then crawls under with her.

"Melinda--what happened? Is it an LOL? How bad is it?" He reaches out carefully to touch her.

The bang startles her, but not enough to cause her to jump. As Cornelius runs to the room, the last of her injuries finish healing.

The blanket over the table is a wonderful idea. And then he's there with her. There's just enough light, but not sunlight, under the table for them to see each other pretty clearly.

"I... I think so. I was in the Nexus yesterday..." Her skin is cool to the touch - not ice cold, but probably colder than he's felt her. She looks at him while she speaks, so he'll be able to see the red eyes, and the fangs.
