...I'm writing an essay on the subculture of roleplaying.
So I'm asking you guys to answer a dozen questions about RP if you've got the time! The questions are below the cut, and you can respond either in a comment or two (replies are screened) or you can just email your answers to me at stickxkeyblade@gmail.com. :>
You can answer these however you'd like, in as much (or as little!) detail as you want. And you don't have to answer all of them. If you roleplay all over the place (maybe you do LJ RP but also play WoW and have a table-top game on the weekends all while occasionally getting together with your college chums to LARP) you can try talking about all of them or you can pick one or two to stick with. I'm mostly looking for stuff on LJ and forum-based RP, table-top and face-to-face RP, and the magical world of LARPing.
----------
01. At what age did you get into roleplaying?
02. What kind of roleplaying do you do? LJRP, LARPing, D&D, WoW, etc.
03. How much of your week (or day, if that's easier) is spent RPing or doing RP related things?
04. So what does a good game or a good session look like? When is it the most fun?
05. What does it look like when a game isn't going so well?
06. What kind of social systems exist in RP? Leadership systems? Character ranking systems?
07. How does someone prepare for a bout of RP? What do they do to immerse themselves?
08. What are some of the common courtesies or rules RPers are expected to follow?
09. How are new people "initiated" into RP or into a new game? What happens when someone leaves?
10. Are there any superstitions, rituals, or just funny game-enhancing tricks involved in RP that you can think of?*
11. How has RP influenced you or your life away from the game itself?**
12. As an RPer, how would you describe RPers as a whole?
* Some examples of this are a lucky dice set, or wearing something your character would wear to feel more in-character. Booze would also count.
** This is definitely a question you can skip if you feel like the answers will get too personal or you don't want to share.
