I Believe I Said This Would Happen

So I'm in the car this morning on my way to work and on the radio they're talking about all of these outbreaks of Mumps here in Michigan. Interestingly enough, the "epidemic" (I put it in quotes because how are 1,000 cases an epidemic?) seems confined to college students and adults. Only a few school-aged children have contracted it.

I think you're right in being concerned about parents not immunizing their children, but even if you get the mumps vaccines (both of them) there is a 10% chance you'll contract it anyway. These cases could just be the 10%.

Just sayin', yo.

Oh sure, just piss in my cheerios there pal! No, I'm not as bugged by the fact that people are contracting it as I am by the idea that it could be spread to the kids whose parents were too dumb to immunize. I understand that there are going to be exceptions to every vaccine, but now people are actually contracting the stupid illness, and possibly coming into contact with people who could carry it and spread it to people who haven't been immunized and it could just get messy. I don't think it's an epidemic or anything, I just think it's one of those things that should make you go "Hmmm...." when you think about all of the kids who aren't immunized. For the most part, it's just me finding an excuse to get on my soap box. You really should take it away from me.

Is it nutmeg?

BTW, I didn't think you were calling it an epidemic... but the news stories I've read are calling it that.

It is nutmeg! Now you have to take a shot.

Well if the news calls it an epidemic, it must be true, because we know they never exaggerate anything.
