this might sound silly, but have you tried a heating pad? i have one that has a shut-off timer in case you fall asleep. i could let you borrow it when next i visit.
We actually have one or two heating pads floating around the apartment. Heather uses them for baby bird and animal rescue, and I use them for joint therapy. I was hoping for something that wouldn't keep me pinned in one place, as heating pads do. Thanks for the offer, though.
years ago i had a hot pad that let you do just that. you soaked it in water then squeezed it until it was just moist. then you microwaved it to the desired temp. it actually held heat pretty well. it also had straps to attach it to the offending body part. the only problem was that sometimes it was too hot at the beginning. i'm sure someone still makes something like this. good luck.
