Log for Sam / Dean / Alice, DDHW.

May 20, 2007 23:39

Dean and Sam were in the dining hall. Dean munched on his breakfast (corned beef hash, ketchup and cheddar cheese all smushed into something that he would only call "amazing"), every now and then slurping down black coffee. He couldn't stop watching his brother. He was glad to see him at all, but here he seemed to relax a bit. Sure, they both ( Read more... )

Alice meanedered into the dining hall. It was around eleven in the morning, and she'd already eaten breakfast, but she wanted her early afternoon tea. She almost never took tea with lunch, instead favoring something lighter to drink.

She got her tea and a few chocolate biscuits and assembled them on a plate. When she turned around, she grinned at the familiar face.

"Sam! May I join you and your friend?"

Sam's mind had been wandering on a similiar path. He wanted out because they had so much work yet to do. But for now they were were stranded here and they were together. Dad was alive. (He still couldn't get over it no matter how many times he looked at the man.)

For a little while, Sam was all for pretending God had given them a coupon.. and they were getting a break for a change. It was just him and his older brother, sitting together, around a real table. Eating real food.

Sam had broken the yoke in one of the over-easy eggs littering his plate along with the sausage and bacon, and dipped a buttery wedge of toast into the warm yellow liquid. He had most of that wedge inhaled when Dean noticed the set of legs... and Sam nearly choked when he noticed who's legs they were ( ... )

Alice. Alice. I swear I know that name. Wait.

"No shit?" He blinked and his eyes went wide. Dean realized that he was probably coming off as rude, and he wiped his mouth. "Um. Is there more than one Alice here, or are we talkin' Alice Alice?"

If only he could figure out why that name was so damn important.

"I'm in love with your father, Alice. Yeah, I'm that one." She reached out for Dean's hand, winking at Sam. "Is he always like this?"

She couldn't help but giggle at the expression on Dean's face, something between "shattered dreams" and "just ate bad fish".

Sam had to do some creative maneuvering to avoid taking that crap to the face, or anywhere else, because Dean always did have good aim.

"Only when he thinks I made him look bad in front of a woman.." Sam said. "Or when he's just being a jerk for no good reason." He added fisting some soggy toast and bacon and whipping it at Dean's face.

Dean blinked hard when yolk started dripping off of his eyelashes. "Look here, Sasquatch." He didn't finish the thought, just reached for the nearest moderately soft thing (which was a plastic replica of a pear) and lobbed it at Sam's torso.

"I was just trying to get to know her." Might end up bein' our stepmom or something. Okay. Ew.

Alice couldn't help laughing, but she did duck under the table a little. "Well, you two will end up running out of food soon anyway." She took her tea with her, smiling and shaking her head.

Sam jerked a little, getting smacked in the chest with the plastic pear before it bounced off harmlessly dropping away to the floor.

"Fine, okay, you stop. I'll stop." Sam said trying to be diplomatic. He had wanted to eat his breakfast, not have Dean wear it. Sometimes it was impossible to resist the urge to fight back.

Sam smiled and hugged her back, but he'd be lying to himself if he didn't admit he was a little bit self-conscious about it. The library had been one thing. They were alone and well... Dad had given him a good impression of Alice, like she could be trusted so... Sam trusted her.

Dad was distrustful by nature. Logically Alice was worthy of trust because of that even when she had been a stranger to Sam.

Now? In front of Dean though? Well he was a little uncertain when hugging her because he didn't know if Dean trusted Alice or not, and as loathe as he was to admit it, Dean's opinion mattered. He liked to act otherwise, but that was a load of crap. Every little brother had some hero-worship happening for their big brother.

He may have felt the way he felt, but Sam was careful not to let Alice notice or feel it. He didn't want her to think something was wrong when it wasn't really.

Dean didn't comment when they hugged. It had been obvious from the get-go that they'd met before. He honestly didn't know how he felt about her yet. IF she'd gotten his father, of all people, to kiss her, then she was either incredibly trustworthy or really good at working the angles. Strippers were known to do that.

But Sam liked her too. And he was inclined to like her as well. It was worrisome.

Alice smiled at Dean when she stopped hugging Sam. "I'd give you one too, but you don't seem the huggy type. Like your dad." She blushed slightly at the mention of John, and nudged him under the table with her foot.

"You guys want to go for a swim? I have a suit now and everything. I didn't before."

"There's a pool?"

Sam obviously had not stumbled on the pool yet. He hadn't had much reason to. He hadn't swam, just for the hell of swimming, since he was a little kid.

"Baby Duck Syndrome!" Sam practically blurted because... his brother didn't just go there... only he really did. Because he was screwed... only he literally wasn't.

Of course sadly, Sam's first thought was of the BDS phenomenon in tech-speak and not well... certainly not what Dean referred to, but he'd keep that to himself or he'd be the one mocked.

"She does like you, but that doesn't mean you need to label her as a BDS case." Sam said seriously. "What I want to know is why you care when you've obviously been with other women since you got here.." Sam said studying him.

"Unless you do care... You like her back.." He guessed.

Dean narrowed his eyes. "I don't like her how you're thinkin'. I like her just fine. And maybe I feel for her a little. It's gotta doubly suck when you're stuck with a bunch of people from the past and can't understand shit they're saying. And other women nothin', it's just been the one. I"ve been busy."

He grumbled a little and shoved his hands in his pockets. I have got to get Sammy laid. He's way less annoying that way.

"Well how am I supposed to know there was only the one?" Sam asked. "I wasn't here for the first week you were." And Frankly, Sam didn't want to know. He just assumed, but maybe his brother's whole 'Get it while the gettin's good' attitude didn't apply so much here either.

Sam was pretty sure Dean would be more inclined to admit he liked River if he thought he could be interested without hurting or confusing the girl. Maybe he was jumping the gun there, but he liked to think he knew Dean pretty well. And River. Well. At first he thought she was just upset about Simon, but he almost got the sensation that River didn't like the idea of having to share Dean with anyone else. She had referred to Dean as 'kindred'. Maybe it was BDS. Then again he was probably over-analyzing, making something out of nothing.

"I guess I do know what you mean though... about feeling for her. She said she 'wished the same' as you did. Only you got your wish and she didn't. When I met her it was almost like she wanted to blame me because her brother hasn't ( ... )

Dean just nodded. The whole situation was getting a little too touchy-feely for his tastes. He didn't want to think about liking girls the way Sam mentioned. Not right then. He knew what that involved, and he wasn't looking for a repeat of the Cassie debacle (Baby, got something to tell you - hey, where are you goin'?).

He shrugged a little. "I know she misses her brother. And wonders why you're so damn tall. Then again, I know me and dad've been wondering that for years, so she can join the club."
