Boy, though I envy your huge track of empty space behind your property, THIS would drive me nuts! We rarely have ticks, and In fact (knock on wood) i've never had a dog have one.
I prefer topicals mostly because they don't get lost, or fall off and I just don't like the idea of those ingredients out where it's rubbing on my house/hands/furniture, etc. So the topicals go on, and soak in and we call it good.
That said, I can't remember what we've been using lately. I asked Tammy to look at this and respond. She knows about this stuff. ;)
The product does work, but there have been some reactions and overdoses. Mostly in cats, but in active dogs too. It seems the more active the dog, the more chemicals are released, it is sort of a flaw in the design (not overtly common, but does happen). You may want to contact bayer directly and ask about the issue
