So, I left England a week ago today. I spent 10 days (not including the 2 days flying) in England and Ireland. I had the best time.
This was my first time flying EVER and I was super nervous. I flew out of Atlanta to D.C at 6AM. The first plane was very small and I had a window seat. I stared out the window the entire flight. Once the plane rose above the clouds, I started to cry. I have never seen anything so beautiful in all my life. It may sound silly, but I've always wished that I could fly. I have recurring dreams about it. It's weird...but being above the earth like that...man...it was life altering. My flight from D.C. to London went by fairly quickly. I watched movies the whole time. I saw "Big Fish," "Love Actually," and "Along Came Polly."
"Big Fish" made me cry. "Love Actually" made me think of Kim (I think that's the movie she wanted to see that had all the actors that she likes.) "Along Came Polly" wasn't great...but it wasn't half bad.
Plans to spend time with my room mate, Jenny, didn't work out. She left the week before I did to spend some time in Paris, and ended up not being able to meet up with me due to some family stuff. I ended up getting to spend some time with Hunter instead. We spent a weekend in Dublin and a few days in London.
The train rides to and from Wales (to get to the ferry for Ireland) were fun. Everything was so beautiful and green. There were dozens of fields of bright yellow flowers. They were so pretty...made me think of Coldplay's "Yellow"...made me all mushy to think of a boy comparing a girl to something so beautiful. I wanted to hop off the train and just pick flowers for days and days. I got to watch the sun set on the train. Gorgeous. Wales was beautiful and quaint. We spent the night there because the ferry we were supposed to ride to Ireland crashed earlier that day. So instead of leaving at 8pm, we left at 3am. We met this guy, Daniel, who was from Nigeria, but lived in London and was headed to Dublin to buy a car. We ate Chinese take-out on the sidewalk and visited a few pubs.
We slept on the ferry ride to Dublin, but woke up just in time to watch the sun come up. I can't remember ever having seen the sun rise...it was breath-taking. Everything seemed so fresh and new-- like the world cleansed itself while I slept and started from scratch as I awoke.
Dublin was fun. I visited the Guiness Brewery and drank Irish whiskey in Temple Bar. I stayed in a hostel with 5 strangers, met a girl from North Carolina, and saw lots of bizarre and pretty things. There were lots of buskers in Dublin and London--they made me happy:)
In London, I got to take a tour of the (new) Globe Theatre (p.s. I LOVE Shakespeare) and I visited St. Paul's Cathedral (where Princess Diana was married and were her funeral was held.) I got to play in a phone booth and chase pigeons and eat crepes (though not as good as Cary Ann's)...and went to this really cool art museum (I forget its name.)
I met some fun, drunk, Irishmen in London. They sang drinking songs, one sang a Scottish tune, and one played my Guiness tin whistle. I just sat and listened and smiled like the biggest tool ever. I picked a fight with one guy (jokingly)...he ended up being a prized fighter (read: Professional fighter who could have easily killed me) Whoops *grin*.
On the ferry, I saw "50 First Dates." Being an Adam Sandler fanatic...I thought it was cute..and funny. Could've been funnier...but I guess they were going for a more lovey-dovey sort of movie....and I thought the ending SUCKED.
In England, I saw "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind." It was the most incredible movie I have ever seen. I couldn't speak for like...20 minutes after it was over. I recommend that everyone go see it if you haven't all ready. So good.
The flight home was...blah. I sat next to this big, gross man who slept with his mouth open and had his arm on my arm rest. It was hard for me to change channels on my tv and radio. I watched "Le Divorce." It was good...kinda weird, but good. I also saw "Girl with the Pearl Earring." It was good...ending kinda sucked, but oh well.
I spent a good bit of my savings (mostly on beer and food [Oh! I had Indian food for the 1st time--I liked it]) and now I'm home working...trying to make a little money.
I've applied for a job at a dentists' office, but I won't hear anything on it for another day or two. I've actually made some decent money at O'Charley's ($170 my first 2 days back.)
I hope to visit Charleston before I move back in August.
