girl how the hell did you find a photographer that cost $5000 in Pensacola? We live in NEW YORK and paid $1700. You are nutso. Seriously! That's like 1/4 of your budget! And trust me, the reception is what kills you - not so much the food - but when you add on tax and gratuity. Our gratuity alone was $5000! And we only had 100 people at the wedding. What number is your guest list at?
Where are you looking/how are you finding your vendors? Are you interviewing people that cost less and looking at their work? No sense in digging into crazy amounts of debt. I know it is THE day, but you have to keep in mind that it is just A day. One. That's it. Set limits and stick to them.
BTW, we had a videographer and thought it was the worst waste of $1000 EVER. But some love it. We just didn't think it was at all worth it.
Agreed with mostly everything she said. Our photographer was absurdly overpriced, but MJ wanted him. And we paid $3,500.
The only thing I disagree with is the videographer. We spent $950 on the videographer and it was the best money we spent. We watch the DVD at least once a month because he did such a great job with it. Captured all the great parts, left out the boring parts and edited two montages for us set to music. Well worth it.
If your parents can't contribute financially, maybe they could help in another, more inexpensive way. For instance, MJ's aunt wanted to help so she actually made all of centerpieces from crap she picked up at the Christmas Tree Shops for pennies. Everyone thought they were professionally done. And even though we bought the flowers, my Mom personally decorated the church which saved us time and money. Stuff like that can be really helpful.
We didn't get a videographer (wanted to save money) but Rick's brother Jeff taped it for us as a present, and he does Pats and Red Sox games for ESPN. There are definate ways to cut corners without looking cheap. BTW, I believe our photographer cost aboug $2500 AND gave us all the proofs and negatives. That's huge, because that's when they make their money...off of reprints. You're better off reprinting them yourself at Ritz. It also included an engagement shoot.
