So much updating to do, so little time

This LJ is starting to feel very neglected, like an old friend you haven’t the time to catch up with. I realise a few of you might be wondering how Pippin is, and he’s bouncing back well. He’s not quite the same as he used to be, but he’s improving all the time. On Thursday night he flew to my finger for the first time since we brought him home, ( Read more... )

Only 15% of people finish? O_O

I'm so glad that I didn't know that for my first effort at Nano last year. It's so much easier to achieve amazing things when you have no idea how impossible they are. And if you get bored, the great thing about Nano is that you can just throw in a huge but entirely pointless sideplot that's entertaining to you but has nothing to do with your story whatsoever *cough* I did no such thing.

And yes, I added this one too ... you can tell I don't know many people in Melbourne anymore >.<

According to the stats published on the site somewhere. I worked it out - the average of people making the count ranged between 14 - 20%, with the exception of the first year. That's just about as daunting as some of the things I'm hearing on the forums!!

So how did you go last year? what should a newbie like me watch out for?

Don't work out things like that! Numbers are scary.

It was my first time last year, and I flew to 40,000 in the first two weeks (thanks to a massive story diversion that's since been removed from the entire draft) took a day off, which wound up being more like a week, then I realised that I was being lazy, and that I'd gotten that far really easily, and that I really ought to finish it off.

But really, it was a total copout. I actually only wrote about a third of the entire draft, and most of it was trash. However, I finished, and I learned a hell of a lot from it, so I'm determined to make a less lazy effort this year!

(And yes, my LJ comments become essays at this time of year >.< Sorry.)

Hey there :-)

Sorry! Normally, I'm pretty patient with those sorts of things - and our IT guys have helped me out of a right fix in the past - but we've just had a change of IT contract which was supposed to "improve" service, but many of us have found it quite the opposite. And getting me to crawl around on my hands and knees following cables four times in two days is not going to make me an amiable person!! :-P
