Last time this came up, I ended up rewatching S1... We do learn (I think in early s2) that Alan had an aunt in the Holocaust - that seemed pretty good evidence to me.

There was a big to-do about an episode that overtly addressed the issue. Alan is Jewish, the mother, I gather, was not.

Their being Jewish came up when Amita was worried about her parents meeting Charlie. Charlie asked if they would be upset that he was Jewish. She replied that no, they would be upset that he's not Indian.

Well, obviously I have NOT been paying attention. I probably need to watch the whole series again so as to catch these references. Poor me :-).
