Hi! I'm not used to participating in communities that aren't solely of the fic-posting variety, so forgive me this awkward intro.
Said intro being done with, I just figured I could retroactively link here to a few posts I made in my journal that I would have linked to, had this community been around at the time I made them. (Yeah, so apparently

I think Kutner said he was orphaned and raised by a Jewish couple, but I can't remember the details. Did he take their name too?

And yes, that's exactly it! He never specified that they were Jewish, but he did take on their name, Kutner, which - forget the fact that I personally know Jewish Kutners myself - I looked up the origin of the name just to be sure, and yes, it is far more likely to be a Jewish surname than anything else. So even if Kutner didn't adopt the religion himself - and he was six, so I hope his adoptive parents left the choice up to him - he would still most likely have been raised at least knowing Judaism a bit more personally. And to what degree depends on his parents' level of observance, of course. I'd like to believe he knows the basics but never really delved in - so he'd know enough to surprise people by following conversations and taking offense at implied antisemitism, but not enough to necessarily identify as a Jew or ever go to synagogue or anything.

I have memmed your recipe. It looks a lot more interesting than the one I have: similar but without the eggs and potatoes, and brown sugar. They're boiled eggs?
You know, I could have sworn Kutner said he was brought up by a Jewish family. It must be the name. :-) Wilson I don't really see as Jewish, but tell me: is Cuddy so in the text, or is she assumed to be Jewish because Lisa Edelstein is?

The eggs end up being hard-boiled, but you don't have to boil them to begin with - a few hours in the oven do the job fine :-) They're actually my favorite kid of eggs - they come out brown, and soak in a lot of other flavors from the mix.
Cuddy, Wilson and Taub are all three canonically Jewish. In the Q&A, DS said that they're all typically secular non-observant Jews, or something like that, which I think fits their characters fine (although Taub did seem to get a little closer to religion during the S4 ep about the Orthodox couple). He also said that Cuddy wasn't originally written as Jewish, but that once the cast Lise Edelstein, it was obvious she was going to be.

*I &heart; Kutner. I love that he's the one who trusts House's brain and suggests that he try to unlock the memory. I love his backstory. (Even though: "Indian guy named Kutner. Ever wonder what happened to my parents?" Is there some significance I don't know to the name KutHOLY CRAP IS KUTNER JEWISH AND I ONLY REALIZED THAT NOW? SERIOUSLY? CAN THAT BE?
...and then I go on and on about it until people explain to me thay yeah, that's the implication. I'm still sorry I never asked David Shore that question.
I haven't directly addressed Kutner's whateverism -- yet -- but I have written him as having a special relationship with Wilson's very Jewish Nana, Judy (who was introduced in this story.) And now this is disastrously getting into self-pimping territory, and out I go. Anyway, next daysofawesome: Kutner fic required!
