All right. I just had this argument with someone who will remain nameless. But I've just got to ask ( Read more... )

Well, I might filch some candy...if the kid was 1) young and 2)horrendeously overstocked and 3) I was craving chocolate.
However, 1) I am a girl and my chocolate cravings carry more weight than a guy....
and 2) I don't ever really plan on having kids.

I limit my kids candy intake. We don't have trick or treating here, but on birthdays and at Christmas and holidays like that when they're showered with sweets, there's a limit to what they can ingest, particularly if a meal is approaching. It waits for them though. My tastes in chocolate is usually a lot more discerning than my kids, I'm afraid. :P It has happened I've eaten some of their candy, but it was after it's been in a closet for MONTHS ( ... )

I could sort of see it in a combination of those, where if they're horrendously overstocked and you ask them to share by pointing out that they've got more than they'll ever be able to eat (even if it takes a while). Even at that, I'd probably still run a thought to just taking them back home earlier before they get overstocked and getting myself a stash for when I got back. :P

I usually have to toss anything she hasn't eaten by about Easter, or it starts to get stale or nasty and melty. I feel kind of bad about it, but even after only going around the block and being out for only an hour she always seems to wind up with way more candy than she will eat. And by that point at least she has Easter candy to replace it.

She is really not that into candy, and I've never needed to put it up or limit it, she knows only to eat a piece or two at a time. Half the time I need to remind her that she has it even if it is sitting out.

Now stuff she doesn't like, like Cheetos (lots of neighbors work at the Frito Lay plant so chip and cheeto samples are a common Halloween offering here), she will give us right away and we'll replace it with whatever extra candy we've got left over from the trick or treaters.

Outright stealing it though, when the kid is expecting to eat and and wants it, that is messed up.

Yeah, it's true... neither one of us really gives her anything much sweeter than fruit juice or the occasional cookie or ice cream. Even so, if we actually stole candy from her, she'd be upset anyway.
