I guess this counts as a Kakashi drabble?
I left this as a comment on rabid_fangrrl 's site, and then I deleted it for being too long and inappropriate there. So I put it here.
Kakashi likes 80s music. Okay, fine. He LOVES 80s music. He listens to The Cure and looks at the picture of his old team when he's sad; he listens to Van Halen when he wants to get pumped up, but only their old stuff with David Lee Roth. And he knows it's cheesy, he knows he'd be laughed at if anyone knew, but he is probably Billy Idol's biggest fan. When he first heard "Eyes Without a Face", it was as if Billy Idol sang it just for Kakashi. Once when he was younger, and an even bigger fanboy than he is now, he had the idea that he would go as Billy Idol for Halloween. The plan never actually happened, since he'd have to take off his mask for the full effect, but that's why Kakashi really wears those fingerless gloves. They were part of the costume, but now they're part of him.
Though he never had the balls go maskless in public, even as someone else, he still cheers himself up after every mission by holding up his dirty uniform to the light before he gets in the shower. Just to see if it got ripped up enough to be a good Billy Idol costume. He washes and saves the best candidates in a box in his closet; he might get around to dyeing them black one day. It doesn't matter if he ever does, because Kakashi knows what he really wants, what the box represents.
He wants somebody to laugh at him for liking Billy Idol. Somebody for whom he could take his mask off, and do his perfect Billy Idol impression, and they'd crack up laughing. But not in a mocking way, like Pakkun or his students might. And taking him seriously would be even worse, which is why he'd never, ever show Gai. No, he wants them, whoever they are, to laugh fiercely and fondly and think Kakashi is funny. And maybe pet his head after they're done laughing together.
But it hasn't happened yet. And since nobody is in his apartment to see, Kakashi casts his sound-barrier jutsu and cranks up "Dancing With Myself" to eleven.
