Hi, I know this is really random, but based on lj entries in other Smith College communities, it looks like you live(d) in Capen. Based on my phone #, it looks like I'm going to be living there this fall as a first-year and I admit I'm really nervous. I've been warned by several about how Capen has tons of people who like to ~bring the drama~ and whatnot. Obviously, there are these types in pretty much every house and not to mention sometimes conflict is inevitable with so many assertive smithies with different personalities living under one roof. And of course no one is in love with everyone who lives in their house as it is. But I'm anxious about a "mean girls"-like situation where one group harasses the rest in the house and makes their lives a living hell. Is Capen really like this?
No, not at all! I mean, there's definitely house drama, as I'm sure that there is in any house, but it's not a situation where one group goes after another. Most of the drama I know of from my two years in the house was from within groups of friends, which I suppose is inevitable
( ... )
Also, I know that Capen had a hazing problem four years ago, so perhaps that is where the "mean girls" rumor came from? Just in case it is, rest assured that that was four years ago (two years before I came to Smith), the administration really cracked down on it, and obviously none of the people involved are still there in the house. Hazing isn't something I've experienced at Smith, in Capen or any other setting.
